Victor Valdes New Contract Barcelona Until 2014

Labels:

Barca can now stop their search for a replacement first choice goalkeeper, after "Victor Valdes" agreed to sign a contract renewal that will keep him at the Catalan until 2014.

According to Marca, Barcelona technical director, Txiki Begiristain, held talks with the player’s father as well as his agent, Gines Carvajal, late Thursday evening and all parties have come to an agreement.

“The meeting is now closed” were Carvajal’s first words when he emerged from his office and he also went on to strongly deny that Victor Valdes had requested a pay packet of €9 million per season, a figure that the Barcelona board had declared that they wouldn't entertain.

During contract negotiations, the 27 year old had been linked to various clubs, including AC Milan and Manchester Utd, while Barcelona were reportedly tracking replacements such as Sebastien Frey and Sergio Asenjo.

The Spanish press haven't yet speculated on how much Victor Valdes will now be earning but there have been conflicting reports of his actual contract length, with El Mundo Deportivo claiming that the new term will run until 2015.

The Catalan are expected to make an official announcement later on Friday.
