Report - Manchester City Nearing Deal For Barcelona's Striker Samuel Eto'o

Labels:

The cameroonian striker Samuel Eto'o is nearing a transfer to Manchester City, according to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mail.

Apparently, sources from within the Catalan stated that the deal is close to completion.

It had been suggested that Robinho could move in the opposite direction as part of the transaction, however, Manchester city have firmly denied that the Brazil international will leave Eastlands this summer.

The fee City are expected to pay to land the 80 time capped Eto'o, who has scored 37 goals for the Indomitable Lions, is €35.2 million.

Samuel Eto'o current contract with El Barca is set to expire next summer, and although Barcelona were willing to extend his stay, it seems they weren't prepared to give in to his wage demands.

"We would like to renew his contract but not at any price," president of barcelona Joan Laporta is quoted as saying.

It is claimed that The Citizen will have to pay Eto'o €225,000 aweek (£192,000) in wages after tax, which means they will be laying out approximately €376,500 a week, totalling almost €19.5m a year.
