Besiktas Set To Bid For Gudjohnsen

Labels:

Eidur Gudjohnsen is almost certain to leave the club this summer, and Turkish side Besiktas have emerged as the favourites to sign the former Chelsea star.

earlier today that the 30 year forward had told the French press that he would consider any approach from either Lyon or Marseille, but neither club had tabled a concrete offer.

However, Besiktas, who were Turkish Super Lig champions last season under coach Mustafa Denizli, have pinpointed Eidur Gudjohnsen as the man to lead their assault on the Champions League.

Newspaper Vatan said today that Besiktas as preparing a €3m bid and the clubs’ sporting director, Erdil Arpaci, hopes to convince Barca that this is a reasonable price for a player who was always on the periphery of the action at the Catalan last season.

Indeed, Eidur Gudjohnsen came close to leaving Spain last summer, as coach Frank Rijkaard’s tenure came to an end, but he decided to stay on the insistence of Pep Guardiola.

In the end, he was heavily involved in Barcelona march to the Copa del Rey title, as well as playing a minor a supporting role in the Primera Division and Champions League triumphs.
