Barcelona Star Samuel Eto'o Will Not Be World's Best Paid Player At Manchester City

Labels:

Manchester City have every intention of signing Eto'o, but he will not be made the best paid player in the world.

After news of City's massive transfer bid for Samuel Eto'o surfaced, many, including Barcelona president Joan Laporta, suggested that the deal would make Samuel Eto'o the highest earning player in the world.

According to The Daily Express, however, representatives of the English club have insisted that that will not be the case.

Earlier reports had indicated that Samuel Eto'o would earn in the region of €211,000 (£180,000) per week, leading to an annual salary of around €14 million (£12m).

However, City officials insist that in a bid to avoid dressing-room unrest, Samuel Eto'o will be paid no more than what Robinho, currently the club's top earner, makes. This would place his wages at around €187,000 (£160,000) per week.

Barcelona are keen to accept City's €29m bid, as Samuel Eto'o is off contract in a year's time and could leave for free at that point.
