Villa Is Great, No Victor Valdes Deal Yet - Joan Laporta

Labels:

The President Joan Laporta has stated that he believes Villa is a great player but not the only one that he admires and also pointed out that Victor Valdes has yet to sign a new contract with Barcelona.

Barcelona president was asked about his thoughts on the Valencia striker and while not wanting to discuss any bid or offer that was being considered, he made his feelings clear.

"He is a truly great player, but I don't think it would be tactful if we were to talk about these things in public, so I will not say anything more," Sport quote him as saying.

"I do just want to repeat that he is a great player that I like a lot and I think is a great role model.

"But there are other players that I like a lot too, not just him."

Barca have yet to add to their ranks this summer, but Joan Laporta believes that it is only a matter of time before the squad changes begin.

"We are going to give a new impulse to the team to boost the motivation again," he continued.

"Now we are looking to create more competition in some positions and the players that will come will have great quality."

Valdes has been widely reported to have penned a new deal with Barcelona, but Laporta explained that while he expects that to happen, it is still a bit early to say it is official

"They have informed me that they are on the right path, that is all I can say," he added.

"I think that we will reach a satisfactory conclusion though. It may appear to be difficult, but these kinds of things are normal when renegotiating a contract.

"It is important that Victor stays with us for many more years to come because he is a great goalkeeper and is an emblematic player."
