There Will Be No Extravagant Signings

Labels:

Barca have been linked with a number of world stars this summer, with the likes of Ibrahimovic, Villa and Mascherano rumoured to be moving to the Catalan.

However, as of yet, Barcelona have not dipped into the coffers to clinch a star signing, while their bitter rivals Real Madrid have arguably been as active as they have ever been in their storied history.

Xavier Sala-i-Martin is the president of the Economic Commission of Barca, and he believes that Barcelona will not follow the extravagant spending policy of their rivals, by bringing in players who value themselves ahead of the future of the organisation as a whole.

“The policy of the club has never been to sell assets in order to fund the purchase of players. If there is any player who believes he is of a higher level within the team then his contract will not be renewed,” Martin told Radio Catalunya.

Finally, he added that money is not, and never has been Barcelona’s number one priority.

He added, “It is not always about having money or paying players, but about winning titles.”
