The manager Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly targeted The Catalan goal keeper Victor Valdes as a replacement for van der Sar, according to The News of the World.

Manchester United boss is currently looking for a long term successor for the Dutch keeper, who is set to retire in the next couple of years, and Alex Ferguson attention has now turned on Victor Valdes.

The 27 year old keeper has been the Number one choice at Barcelona for the past few years, and has been at the club his entire career.

If Manchester United manager wishes to take him to Old Trafford it would take a very big offer for the Spanish keeper to move.

El Barca beat The red devils in the Champions League final last season, and picked up the domestic league and cup double.

The Catalan born player has been offered new contract with the Primera Division champions, but has rejected the deal, and is now holding out for higher wages.

The Spanish keeper has stated that he wants the same high wage structure as the club's biggest stars, but the demands could lead to his exit from the club.

Manchester United have been on the lookout for a keeper for sometime now, with Yohann Pele and Diego Lopez thought to be high on Alex Ferguson list of potential signings.
