Yaya Toure Voted Ivorian Player Of The Year

According to a report posted on FIFA’s official website, Yaya Toure grabbed 39.58 per cent of the votes to win the fourth Ivorian Footballer of the Year gong.

Like in 2008, when he was first voted player of the year, Toure seduced the jury comprising of journalists and the public with his inspirational displays both for club and country.

This year he helped Barcelona win a historic treble; the Copa del Rey; the Primera Division title; and the Champions League.

He was followed in the poll by goalkeeper Boubacar Copa Barry, who grabbed 23.44 per cent of the votes. The Lokeren shot stopper ended the season on a high and was voted the Goalkeeper of the Year in Belgium. Chelsea star Didier Drogba followed in third position with 16.47 per cent.

Drogba came ahead of Marseille’s Bakari Kone (14.07 per cent) and Salomon Kalou of Chelsea (6.45 per cent), who completed the top five. Twenty-three players were initially listed to take part in the poll, in which only five made the final round.
